Vulnerability of the structures of the buildings

in relation to the seismic action

O.P.C.M. of 20th March 2003 changed the classification of national territory seismicity. In accordance to this order the whole national territory is seismic and some areas have increased their level of dangerous considerably. “Technical standards for structures-NTC 2008” issued by Ministerial Decree Infrastructureof 14th January 2008 and its Circular n. 617/C.S.L.L.P.P. of 02nd February 2009 with entry into force on 1st July 2009 regulate actions on existing building by recommending these three operation levels in relation to earthquake :

Adaptation

Improvement

Repairing or local intervention

The outdated Technical standards for planning, construction and testing of prefabricated buildings specified in D.M. of 03rd December 1987 n. 39 provides for friction supports between prefabricated elements; this kind of coupling doesn’t allow enough structural deformation to withstand the action of the earthquake; it is necessary to remove structural defects with a logic organized plan.

Progemar activity on this buildings is composed by:

01

Phase 1

Survey of the conditions in order to find out some defects and vulnerability even with data acquisition from Public Office and materials instrumental information (invasive or not).

02

Phase 2

Verify on existing building according to NTC2008

03

Phase 3

Operating planning (always according to NTC2008) to achieve the requested security level. The planning also includes proposal of the best materials and the metric calculation to get the total cost of the action.

Progemar uses MasterSap AMV software with 3D modeling and solver to finite elements (staic and dynamic linear analysis of SLV, SLC, SLO, SLD limit states and not linear with push-over method). Meanwhile, for the architectural, plant and structural project drawings we use ALLPAN software. For the visits and instrumental verification we use Teodolite with GPS and electronic levels.
